TRADITION CAPABLE
OF BEING
RENEWED
AN ALPINE VILLAGE IN THE HEART OF THE CITY
The Marché Vert Noël was born in 2008 from a simple and clever idea: to recreate a colorful alpine village
in the heart of Aosta, with wooden chalets and a real fir forest, amid music, lights and joy with an evocative
and unique setting. For five editions the Christmas market was hosted in Piazza Severino Caveri, then in
2013 the move to the evocative archaeological area of the Roman Theater. The current unavailability of the
archaeological area due to renovation works led to the relocation of the event to Piazza Giovanni XXIII (of
the cathedral), Piazza Roncas and Piazza Caveri.
For the 2024 edition, the initiative is planned to be held in Piazza Chanoux.

DISCOVERING AOSTA
FROM AUGUSTA PRÆTORIA TO AOSTÆ
In addition to the pleasure of a visit to the Marché Vert Noël, Aosta, founded by the Romans in 25 B.C.
under the name Augusta Prætoria, has numerous attractions to offer that have resulted in its selection as one
of the finalist cities for the title of Italian Capital of Culture for 2025 with the Aostæ project. The "little
Rome of the Alps," as it is known for the quantity and remarkable state of preservation of monuments from
Roman times, also boasts splendid religious complexes dating back to the Middle Ages such as the
Collegiate Church of Sant'Orso and the Cathedral, numerous museums and exhibition centers, a futuristic
Athenaeum in on its way to completion, and a modern cable car that takes 17 minutes from the city center to
the snows of Pila.
